Origami for a Community Christmas Tree

Help us decorate our Community Christmas Tree!

An origami Christmas tree made of green paper.

What are you grateful for this year? What do you hope for?

In our porch we’ve got a Community Christmas Tree this year!

Please help us decorate it.

Take Some Time

Christmas can be so loud… So much expectation. So many voices. Telling us how to celebrate, what to wear, what to eat and drink, what to watch and what to buy.

Take some time out to “Hush the Noise” and make some decorations for our Community Christmas Tree as you think of the things you’re grateful for, or of your hopes for the year ahead and more peace, kindness and love in the world.

  • Get some paper — plain paper? wrapping paper? brown paper? or a piece of origami paper from Aroma Coffee Shop in Haxby? — and these instructions:

  • Perhaps light a candle if you wish and relax as you think of the things you’re thankful for, and your hopes for the year to come — maybe write or draw them on the paper. And as you do…

  • Use the instructions to make some decorations: as many as you like. They don’t have to be perfect! Decorate them any way you like. (You can find other designs at the Origami Fun website, or search the internet.)

  • Drop off the decorations you’ve made, either:

    • in the box inside The Hub at our Methodist Church (enter by the side door, along the drive to the right of the building) when the church is open, or

    • at Aroma Coffee Shop in Haxby

We’ll fill the tree in our porch area as decorations come in, so check back regularly to see it being filled with people’s gratitude, thankfulness and hopes as we approach Christmas.

Help us create a tree loaded with gratitude and hopefulness!
